Empire Fighting Chance to Help Improve Mental Health in South Wales

Traditional interventions are often expensive and aren't always that successful

Bristol based charity Empire Fighting Chance http://www.empirefightingchance.org/ are delighted to announce they are now increasing their support services to other parts of the country with a move into South Wales.

Empire Fighting Chance has a dual purpose; to create champions in the ring, and to create champions in life.

They enable young people to fulfil their broader potential by raising aspiration and self confidence to make better and informed life choices, staying clear of crime and violence to progress in education and employment. 75% of programme attendees progress into further learning opportunities.

Martin Bisp explains: "We are working in multiple areas across South Wales using our own non-contact boxing and mental health programme. We have been seeing real innovation from the local authorities who understand and are prepared to trial different ways of engaging and working with those most in need. Traditional interventions are often expensive and aren't always that successful. We are different, edgy and credible and this brings rewards.

Basing ourselves in local boxing gyms and delivering our programme, designed in conjunction with a psychologist, we are seeing fantastic results, keeping young people in school, reducing poor behaviour and increasing mental well-being

Of those surveyed 84% are more confident and feel happier, 80% feel more able to overcome challenges, 84% more likely to keep trying until they succeed and 72% behave better in school.

We are really proud to be working in these areas and also be championed by our Ambassadors former featherweight World Champion Lee Selby and ex rugby union legend Tommy David."
