Summer Family Fun at Holker Hall & Gardens

Holker Hall & Gardens

With the summer holidays almost over you may be running out of ideas to keep the family entertained. But with magnificent gardens and walks, a newly refurbished playground and a fun-filled events programme, Holker Hall & Gardens in Cumbria offers the perfect place for a family day out this summer!

Outdoor Theatre
Experience the fun and excitement of outdoor theatre, set in the beautiful surroundings of Holker Hall & Gardens this August. Outdoor productions will include Beauty & the Beast on Tuesday 24th August at 2pm. Actress Georgina Sherrington, best known for her performance as the accident prone Mildred Hubble in the children’s TV series, The Worst Witch, will play the lead role. Children are invited to attend in fancy dress for the opportunity to join the cast in a fairytale parade during the interval. Pride & Prejudice will also be performed on Sunday 15th August at 6pm. Partial cover and some seating will be available in case of wet weather.

Wonderful Walks
Holker has created two new walks for families as part of the Go Cards® for Kids series. Starting at the Hall & Gardens where families can park for free, these will take visitors on a trail through the beautiful, local countryside, discovering the nearby ancient villages of Cartmel and Flookburgh on the way.

Families can also enjoy exploring the beautiful Holker Gardens and Dear Park. Visitors can request a Garden Quest Sheet at the kiosk, which will guide children along pathways and through gates to discover features such as the ancient stone Labyrinth and Limestone Grotto.

Historical Holker Hall
Discover the magnificent home of Lord & Lady Cavendish, which has never been sold but passed down through the family line. With no ropes or barriers, visitors are free to wander the rooms of this magnificent Victorian mansion and view artefacts such as a beautiful purse belonging to Lady Georgiana, 5th Duchess of Devonshire and a microscope belonging to the scientist Henry Cavendish.

Picnic and Play
There are countless spots to enjoy a picnic at Holker. The playground has a new covered picnic area where families can relax, while the children can play and be inspired to let their imaginations run free with the woodland platform and new equipment including, stepping stones, balance beams and a rocking boat. The playground is suitable for children aged up to 12 years. Why not treat the family to delicious, homemade cakes or a children’s picnic box from the Holker Courtyard Cafe and nibble on sandwiches and fresh fruit in the summer sun.
