A new novel, released in time for Euro 2004, will attempt to show football fans that the saviour they're looking for may not wear the number 7 on his back. England's Messiah, published next Friday by Authentic media, is set in the world of international soccer, and tells the story of a player with a different perspective on life's ultimate goal.

England's Messiah tells the story of John Christie, a footballer plucked from obscurity to become English football's new superstar. Through his relationship with cynical sports journalist Harry Foster, we see how John's distinctiveness begins to change and influence those around him - with momentous results.
My hope therefore is that thousands of fans will be intrigued by this book, and be keen to read it. It's not quite the official novel of the England team - but maybe it could become the fans' favourite!"

England's Messiah is published by Authentic Media, priced £7.99.
