Starting a revolution against Black Friday discounting

Hygiene poverty in the UK

This Black Friday week we want to take it back to the simple joy of giving – that’s what Christmas is all about.

Hygiene poverty is a hidden yet very real problem throughout the UK, with over 14 million people affected.

60% of those living in poverty are working families, and astonishingly 4.5 million of those are children.

Christmas should be about doing good and that is why Bloom and Blossom is scrapping heavy Black Friday discounting and teaming up with Beauty Banks to help tackle hygiene poverty among UK children this Christmas.

Beauty Banks mission is to make hygiene poverty history, and Bloom and Blossom is looking for your help to donate as many products as possible to families in need. For all orders over £15 on their website this Black Friday week, Bloom and Blossom will be donating much-needed toiletries to children who need them via Beauty Banks in a campaign they have named GIFTS WITH PURPOSE.

In what looks to be the start of a revolution against Black Friday discounting, Bloom and Blossom is not alone in looking to do good with other brands also choosing to donate over discount during the Black Friday chaos.

- Luxury pyjama brand Desmond & Dempsey is donating 10% of sales to the charity Something To Look Forward To

- Haircare brand Boucleme is donating to the charity with every purchase made on their website.

Family means everything to Julia Yule and Christina Moss, co-founders of Bloom and Blossom - the natural family skincare experts. With 5 children between them, family is the driving force behind the brand and the fuel for every product they have created.

Julia and Christina said: “Our eyes have really been opened to the reality of hygiene poverty right here on our doorstep in the UK. As parents ourselves, we can’t imagine the horror of having to make a choice between feeding a child or keeping them clean.”

“This Black Friday week we want to take it back to the simple joy of giving – that’s what Christmas is all about. We’re joining Beauty Banks’ mission and are making a choice to give products, not heavy discounts.”

“We want to make a difference, give back to our community and we want our customers to feel like they are part of something bigger. We’re using this Black Friday week as the perfect opportunity to give back to families in need, right here on our doorstep in the UK. No slashed prices, no gimmicks, just a simple message to give back and support those who need it most this Christmas.”

“This is the third time we’ve teamed up with Beauty Banks to donate products and we want to make this our biggest donation yet.

Beauty Banks distribute personal care and hygiene essentials to registered charitable organisations throughout Britain who, in turn, distribute them to the people who need them most.

Alice Baird from Superkidz, a charity who benefits from Beauty Banks donations reiterated just how important these donations are - ‘we work with deprived communities and have a lot of families choosing between heating and eating. Can you imagine being a child in school who hasn’t washed? Or wanting to go to a job interview, but not having clean hair? Beauty Banks allows them to exist in society without being ostracised for the way they look or smell.’

Jo Jones, co-founder of Beauty Banks adds - “We are so fortunate that brands like Bloom & Blossom support Beauty Banks and enable us to do what we do. It also makes a huge impact to gift our charity partners with products that are not only functional but are a joy to use.”

To be part of Gifts with Purpose this Black Friday week, simply make a purchase of £15 or more at between Monday 25th November and Monday 2nd December.
