Brussels, September 17, 2001 - GlobalSign, a leading Trust Services Provider
offering flexible outsourced PKI-solutions and certifications services for
e- and m-business, and UKERNA®, a company responsible for the networking
programme of the education and research community in the United Kingdom,
today announced they have signed a commercial agreement to provide server
certificates to Further and Higher Education Institutions (i.e.
universities, etc) and Research Councils in the UK.
Under the terms of the agreement, GlobalSign will provide its ServerSign SSL
server certificates to all further and higher education organisations as
well as research councils connected to JANET®, the government funded network
for education and research.
GlobalSign ServerSign™ certificates provide authentication, SSL encryption
and additional features. They are used to prove the identity and ownership
of a domain name and for enabling confidential communication between a web
server and the connected customers.
The agreement provides a significant discount on the usual price but the
discounted certificates are only available for domain names ending in
.ac.uk. Further and higher education institutions and research councils
wishing to take advantage of this facility should use the only source of
certificates at this special price at <http://www.ja.net/CERT/certificates/>

Service Level Agreement from the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)
of the UK Further and Higher Education Funding Councils. JANET® is a
