Bower Retirement celebrates grandparents with the My Grand Hero competition!
Bower Retirement have been running a competition to celebrate grandparents which asks participants to share photos and a reason why their grandma’s and grandpa’s are their hero for a chance to win a luxury hamper and a £100 donation to a listed UK charity.
We feel it’s important to appreciate family and vital to keep in touch with older family members as loneliness is a growing concern. The competition was launched to bridge the gap and to put a smile on grandparent’s faces by recognising all the Grand Heroes out there.
We also take elderly care very seriously as we ourselves have a responsibility to help and support older people in making life changing decisions. Through the competition we wanted to help support charities that work hard to support and care for the older community which is why we will be donating £100 to three of the charities listed chosen by the winners.
There have been so many wonderful and heart-warming entries so far and so many remarkable grand heroes being shared and shouted about. With contestants being able to enter up until the 28th September there’s still time to be in with a chance of winning!
The final winner will be announced on 1st October – Grandparents day!
July’s winner was Beccy Rowley and her hero of a granddad, Ron. At nearly 90 we loved his spirit and the fact he volunteered in the local community and was also a torch bearer in the 2012 Olympics. Beccy chose Community Christmas to take the £100 donation who were very grateful
Caroline at Community Christmas was delighted,
“Community Christmas is a small charity where every donation really counts. This win will be particularly welcome as we start to plan our response for Christmas 2017 covering a significant part of our outgoing telephone charges. We are very grateful to Beccy for choosing us for the donation and to all those who took part to celebrate grandparents.”
August’s winner was Amanda Ward who shared with us her Nan Betty, another true grand-hero. Betty is disabled and suffers with terrible arthritis but still manages to enjoy herself and have fun, while also being there for her family. Amanda told us;
“She’s had a very busy life with 6 children, that went on to give her 27 grandchildren who in turn then gave her 36 Great Grandchildren with a couple more on the way!””
Amanda picked OPAAL UK to receive the £100 charity donation. OPAAL’s CEO, Kath Parson said,
We are delighted to receive this donation as it will enable us to reach out to more older people when they are most vulnerable and need someone to speak up for them when making decisions about their health and care needs.
