The show encourages local companies to get involved with the event to offer new visitors to the area an opportunity to enjoy the taste of Derbyshire.

“This is a chance of a lifetime!” says Simon Ellar show organiser, Editor & Author. “We have created a show that cannot be experienced anywhere else, with such talented and skilled outdoors people gathered together in one place, to learn from one another and most importantly have fun! We are getting closer to the event now and the timetable is really exciting. We specifically placed the show in the half-term week to open up the event to families, as a father of four, we have aimed to offer as many children’s activities as possible. Bushcraft is so much fun and if you can start from an early age, it only gets better!

We are thrilled to welcome a group of Massai people from Kenya, who will be bringing their stories and skills to The Bushcraft Show 2013 to share them with visitors, many of whom may never have the opportunity to visit a Massai village. Some of these skills, similar to ‘our’ bushcraft and survival skills are dying out as every corner of the world is touched by technology and providing this opportunity for the Massai people to share these skills helps to preserve them! Visitors can learn of the culture through the talks on stage and enjoy, and participate in the famous Massai Dance, try their hand at beadwork or even dress up as a Massai warrior! We have teamed up with Jason Ingamells of Woodland Ways to turn this into a reality and raising funds for the Oloip Maasai dance troop and Maasai village through the Woodland Ways Bushcraft Foundation, the charitable arm of Woodland Ways.”

Elvaston Castle & Country Park is the perfect location for the Show with a nice big showground that is dry and level provides the perfect setting for the social area, classrooms, demonstrations, trade stands and field camping. Woodland areas bordering the showground provide woodland camping and the stage for woodland-based activities. The park has a Bridleway, Foot Paths, Cycle Routes and a super Nature Reserve with 6 Bird Hides, a Wetland Area, a Reed bed, Heronry, Butterfly Area, Dragonfly Area, Reptile Basking Area, Newt Pond and much more. You will of course see a wide variety of flora and fauna. The lake, not normally available for public access, will be at available throughout the weekend.
