London, 17 April 2001: GIS 2001 announces the launch of its newest feature, the Location Based Pavilion (LBS Pavilion), and the support of the LBS Pavilion by the WAP Group, the leading authority for the wireless industry.

Access to and analysis of spatial information is at the heart of LBS and there is no doubt that the Geographical Information Industry is having a major impact on the emerging LBS market. In turn, the rapid development of LBS has the potential to evolve and reshape the GI Landscape, bringing new opportunities to all involved. In response to this, the LBS Pavilion has been designed to provide a forum for those businesses which aim to be at the forefront of location based services; providing up to the minute information in this rapidly developing market, and valuable networking opportunities for the industry as a whole.

The WAP Group, as the world’s largest platform for facilitating business in the wireless space, is supporting the LBS Pavilion as it believes LBS is crucial for the WAP and wireless industries.

Graham Brown, CEO of the WAP Group explains, “LBS is a key element for WAP and Wireless, and is what many industry specialists and analysts have tagged for some time to be the all-important "killer application." Whether this is the case or not remains to be seen - what is crucial at the moment is that location based applications allows users to receive varying degrees of information and services, straight to mobiles. As such, WAP, wireless and location are intrinsically linked. The LBS Pavilion at GIS 2001 will be an important place to raise awareness of the issues surrounding wireless and WAP, and highlight the technologies already available within the industry.”

To accomplish this, the LSB Pavilion will run for all visitors:
 FREE case study presentations
 FREE keynote sessions with leading industry experts
 FREE panel discussions, chaired by Graham Brown, CEO of the WAP Group

The GIS 2001 event, in association with the AGI Conference, will also hold a number of other educational features for visitors to take advantage of.
They include:
 The Solutions Centre - offering visitors the chance to try the latest applications in a neutral, independent environment.
 The Consultancy Centre with free consultations by recognised applications experts.
 Free seminars and a workshop programme.
 Over 130 of the key vendors in Europe.
