Marketing professionals changing jobs every two years report specialist marketing recruitment agency

A leading online marketing recruitment agency has reported that on average permanent marketing professionals last just over two years (27 months) before seeking a new role within their industry.

The comprehensive analysis of over 500 candidates registered with looked at the length of time that marketing professionals remain in their current position before applying for new marketing jobs. It will come as no surprise to HR and Marketing Managers that marketing employees look to move on after just over two years.

Recruitment Consultant, Emily King commented; “Marketing professionals are typically very driven individuals, with the desire to move up the career ladder quickly. If a company offers no scope for progression it is easy to see why staff start to look elsewhere in order to advance their career.”

Of course it may not always be the case that an employee makes a conscious decision to move on from their current role. “In times of economic uncertainty, it is often members of the marketing department bear the brunt of staff cutbacks” commented King. “Now that the economy is becoming more stable, marketing employees should start to feel more confident in obtaining a long term career with real prospects.”

The impact of online job boards is also a large contributor to staff turnover suggests King. “The increasing number of job boards gives candidates ready access to information on marketing salaries and demand for marketing staff, which enables them to assess their worth within the current market.”

In order to avoid a high turnover of staff, management need to offer their staff a clear personal development plan and regular appraisals. This will enable employees to feel more valued within their organisation and less likely to look for employment elsewhere.” continued King.
