Humberside Police to tackle drivers' attitudes to speed

Humberside Police today announces that it is working with Northgate Information Solutions in the development of its Speed Awareness Scheme to advance its efforts in educating speeding motorists.

Through an upgrade to Northgate’s existing fixed penalty solution, ‘VP/FPO’, Humberside Police will be able to ensure that drivers caught committing an eligible offence are automatically offered the choice between a Speed Awareness course and a fixed penalty notice. Pilot studies around the UK have shown that the courses, which tackle drivers’ attitudes to speed, have been successful in reducing re-offending.

The new solution will enable Humberside Police to:
• automatically check the eligibility of offenders and notify them of their choice;
• electronically store drivers’ responses to Speed Awareness course offers and store attendance records from course providers;
• check attendance records for other areas through a link with the DVLA;
• automatically reinstate the original penalty if a driver does not respond to a course offer or does not attend their course sessions;
• manage all correspondence and enable direct access to all necessary information, as well smoothly integrate into the current penalty notice application.
