Laser hair removal is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis: diode laser energy is absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair follicle; the light energy transforms into thermal energy, causing the hair to fall out within a couple of days. Because hair grows at three different stages, repeat treatments are needed to target the hair follicles at the ideal stage. Since the diode laser selectively targets only dark pigment, TRIA is safe and effective for people with light to dark brown/black hair and lighter shades of skin.


A skin chart on the TRIA box will help determine if you have the right skin tone to use TRIA. TRIA also has three contact sensors to safeguard against misuse. The light pulse will emit only if all three contact sensors are in contact with the skin. If the device is moved or lifted from the skin during treatment, TRIA will not emit a pulse of light. Instead, TRIA will signal that the area needs to be re-treated with a short buzzing sound.


TRIA has three levels of intensity, which can be tailored to skin sensitivity. When applied to the skin, the device emits a short pulse of light, targeting multiple hair follicles in second-long intervals. When it’s time to move to the next treatment area, the device emits a short “end” beep. Treatment time depends on the size of the area being treated.


TRIA should be used every two to four weeks until desired results are achieved. After the first treatment, it takes about two weeks to see visible results. In clinical studies, 90% of patients noted any hair that did grow back was lighter and finer. TRIA’s compact size allows for easy handling during treatments and compact storage when not in use.
