Rosetta Stone Boosts Management Team as Part of European Expansion Drive

Rosetta Stone, the award winning provider of online and CD-ROM based language learning is expanding its business, boosting its UK management team with the appointment of Erik Childerhouse as EMEA Sales Manager focusing on the education market.

Previously European Sales Manager at academic publishers, John Wiley and Sons, Erik brings to the role over 10 years experience of working in the education sector. His remit will be to forge partnerships with schools, universities and other academic institutions to grow further Rosetta Stone’s presence in the market and meet the increased demand for online learning.

Rosetta Stone’s online and CD-ROM courses are available in over 30 different languages. Its Dynamic Immersion methodology enables users to learn a new language in the same way they learnt their first; by linking new words with real-world objects and events. This method of learning does not use translation, avoids tedious memorisation and grammar drills and instead relies on thousands of real-life images, written texts and voices of native speakers to teach learners in the most natural way possible.

The software also includes voice recognition technology and a feedback mechanism so learners can improve their pronunciation and check that their accent is correct. A major benefit of immersive language learning software is that with no translation, it is equally effective for learners of any background or mother tongue.

The company has experienced a significant growth in the UK since its launch in 2005 and its software is already being successfully piloted in several schools across the UK to boost pupils’ language skills.

James Pitman, Managing Director EMEA of Rosetta Stone, comments, “Erik will be a valuable asset to Rosetta Stone as he fully understands the language learning challenges of the education sector. Improving the language skills of children is now a major objective for UK schools and the Government. Languages can provide the vocational skills and cultural understanding students need to develop their careers in an increasingly globalised world.”

“Rosetta Stone is a dynamic organisation with huge potential for growth. The market for online and CD-ROM based language learning is taking off in the education sector as the importance of language skills in today’s global economy is finally being realised. I am excited about my new role within a company that offers a solution which clearly meets the needs of the education sector,” commented Erik Childerhouse.
