MBDA has celebrated its achievement of the Investor in Innovations Standard to reflect the maturity, drive and commitment to Innovation. As part of the Annual Innovation Awards, MBDA’s Chief Technology and Performance Officer Gianni Bongianni was conferred with award by Professor Sa’ad Medhat, CEO of the Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange, the professional body responsible for the Investor in Innovations (I3) Standard.

I3 is an integrated, leading-edge standard that offers a practical way to validate and benchmark an organisation’s innovation capability. MBDA was benchmarked in 6 categories: Strategy and Alignment; Organisational Readiness; Core Capabilities, Technologies and Intellectual Property; Industry Foresight; Customer Awareness; and Impact and Value.

Members of the Institute’s Innovation Council that include c-suite executives together we an expert panel of six have conducted the I3 benchmarking and validation process on MBDA, and, reviewed the related evidence. The validation process has also enlisted the participation of several external MBDA customers, suppliers and partners.

Prof Medhat said: “MBDA has demonstrated confidently a strong innovation commitment to its customers and stakeholder supported by systematic processes that nurture a culture of innovation and promote performance excellence. MBDA can therefore project a visible differentiation as an international innovative leader within the defence sector and beyond.”

Mr Bongianni said: "To stay competitive in a world dominated by change we have to continue to be innovative in proposing new competitive military capability, designed and manufactured with modern methodology and technology. This is why we’ve decided to undergo the Investor in Innovations assessment to benchmark our innovation capability not just against our peer competitors but also against international best practice. We are delighted to have achieved the standard, which gives us a springboard to pursue our plans with agility and confidence. It is a double celebration for us as MBDA also recognises all the achievements of its innovators from across the nation countries.”

The celebration was held at the world heritage site of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London.
