Journalist trialists sought for revolutionary KeyChain Desktop USB stick

The device is a pioneer in the next generation of mobile work environments.

Today, KCD Direct Ltd announces that they are seeking up to eight UK freelance or in-house technology writers to trial the revolutionary new KeyChain Desktop USB device for a period of up to one month. Interested parties should contact KCD Direct using the details below.

The product has been developed by British-owned Carousel Solutions based in Dubai, UAE, category winners of Dubai’s GITEX 2010 Startup Showcase in October 2010. GITEX is the Middle East’s largest annual computer technology tradeshow. The tiny USB stick - modelled on a 16GB flash drive - has been specially customised, partitioned and encrypted to provide a substitute high security computing environment that can be carried anywhere and used immediately with any Windows desktop, laptop or netbook. The device is a pioneer in the next generation of mobile work environments.

When the host machine re-boots from the USB port, the password-protected KeyChain Desktop software executes entirely from the USB stick. A customised Linux operating system harnesses basic hardware such as the keyboard, webcam and wireless card, with built-in drivers covering virtually every type of Windows computer available. A consumer, businessperson, or corporate employee can then carry out their regular communications and office productivity tasks using built-in applications including Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org, Skype, Chrome, Adobe Reader, Dropbox and Citrix Receiver.

No data footprint is left on the host machine’s hardware – all local data and user settings such as passwords and WiFi or VPN access configurations are encrypted on the KeyChain Desktop. Of course, such data moves with the USB device itself, immediately available the next time the stick is used with a different host desktop, laptop or netbook. This ensures complete security and protection.

KCD Direct believe that the device appeals most to customers that need quick access to their usual data and core applications in contexts where their normal computing facilities and security standards are either unavailable or impractical:

- as a backup device for weekend and vacation emergencies
- as an out-of-hours private browser for those restricted to company hardware
- as a stable, secure complement to a netbook for workers out and about
- as a run-anywhere tool for accessing corporate applications (Citrix)

KCD Direct are now retailing the KeyChain Desktop product direct to consumers and small businesses via their website where there is further detailed product information and usage scenarios - www.kcd-direct.com

The product is competitively priced for all budgets at a retail price per unit of £149.95 + Vat

The British-owned Dubai-based developers, Carousel Solutions, category winners of the GITEX 2010 Startup Showcase, have an exciting pipeline of further product developments planned for 2011.
