Karoo.co.uk launches music streaming service with we7

East Yorkshire broadband portal Karoo.co.uk has launched a music service that lets visitors to the website stream a huge selection of music free of charge and completely legally.

The service also gives users the option to buy songs and albums as MP3 downloads to use on iPods and other digital music players.

Karoo Music is being launched in partnership with we7, one of the UK's most popular streaming websites. Launched in 2007 by a team of entrepreneurs including musician Peter Gabriel, we7 has more than three million users who access the site directly or through partners, such as the Guardian, GQ and music magazine NME.

Karoo Music gives users a range of personalisation features that let them create their own 'radio stations' and build personal playlists, both of which can then be shared with friends. The streamed music is free of charge to users, accompanied by advertising to ensuring each song is paid for and artists don't lose out by making their songs available on the site.

Customers who don't want to hear advertising messages can upgrade from the free service to an ad-free version which includes extra features such as exclusive content for £4.99 per month, and can even access the 6.5m songs on the portal from smartphones such as iphones and Android handsets for £9.99 per month.

Nick Thompson, KC's Director of Consumer Services, said: "With more than a quarter of a million visitors each month karoo.co.uk is one of the most popular websites in Hull and East Yorkshire, and the launch of Karoo Music gives local people even more of a reason to visit the site."

"We think the huge selection of music and the clever features the serviceoffers, such as the ability to create a really personal listening experience and to share music with others, will go down well with our customers."

Steve Purdham, CEO of we7, commented: "Everyone loves music and the way people listen to music is changing. Since 2007 we've been making it easy to stream music absolutely free
of charge and also completely legally.

"Now we're extremely excited about working with KC to deliver a personal music experience to all their customers which gives them access to more than 6.5 million songs from chart music to classic albums and old favourites."
