IT FACTORY Wins District Award by Leveraging Latest Features in Office XP to Build SFA Solution for VPNet; IT FACTORY Now Placed in National Competition
New York City, USA (Microsoft Office XP Launch), 31 May 2001 — IT FACTORY, Inc., the leading supplier of knowledge technology solutions, today announced that the company has won the Office XP Solution Challenge Award in the southeast district of the USA based on a Sales Force Automation (SFA) solution it developed for VPNet, an established leader in the virtual private networking industry. IT FACTORY’s Microsoft Solutions Practice, formerly ECMS of Columbia, SC, earned this prominent recognition by leveraging the most advanced new features of the Office XP product suite, such as smart tags and the Office XP workflow engine, to produce dramatic improvements in VPNet’s sales force productivity.
“The new Office XP suite is a vital component in our Microsoft solution practice, and we are extremely pleased to receive this recognition for staying on the leading edge of Microsoft-based solutions,” said Lars Johansen, president and CEO of IT FACTORY. “The new productivity-enhancing features of Office XP make it an ideal environment for building collaborative applications in organisations with a significant commitment to Microsoft Exchange as their messaging platform.”
VPNet initially contracted IT FACTORY (then ECMS) to manage their upgrade to the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system and the Exchange 2000 Server messaging and collaboration platform. IT FACTORY recognised that the Web Storage System, the Internet-friendly database component of Microsoft Exchange Server 2000, provided a perfect platform for their Web-enabled lead tracking and contact management application. IT FACTORY used a variety of new Office XP technologies and developer tools, in conjunction with their own innovative visual development tool, to build the solution. As a result, VPNet now manages contacts and conducts collaboration between inside and outside sales representatives and resellers in more than 25 countries.
“We’re extremely pleased to see IT FACTORY begin to integrate Office XP into its Microsoft solutions, as their large-enterprise customers are ideally suited to benefit from the many new capabilities of the Office XP suites,” said Lisa Gurry, product manager for Office at Microsoft Corp. “Having well-established partners with a strong global presence such as IT FACTORY embracing Office XP is an important part of our go-to-market plan. We expect advanced solution providers such as IT FACTORY to have a strong impact on the adoption of the Office XP suite as a platform for advanced productivity applications.”
Last month, IT FACTORY announced the acquisition of Columbia, SC-based ECMS, becoming the first company in the market to provide solutions on both the Lotus and Microsoft messaging platforms. IT FACTORY, which became the world’s largest Lotus ISV (independent software vendor) in less than three years, made the pivotal move into the Microsoft solutions market when it recognised the emerging importance of Exchange 2000 and the Web Storage System as a platform for building enterprise applications. The internal development technology acquired as part of the acquisition, which was used in building the VPNet solution, will be launched as a formal product offering from IT FACTORY at the Microsoft TechEd conference on 18 June.
