Markel, the Leeds-based specialist insurance company, today announced that its staff charity committee had raised over £118,000 for charities and good causes during 2011.
The funds were distributed to a mix of international, national and local charities, and were raised by staff organised activities supported by donations or cash-matching from the company.
• £32,148 came from staff contributions to charities;
• company sub-projects for causes such as the Royal British Legion raised £32,500;
• fund raising by staff in the Retail offices for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers generated £33,620;
• the balance came from matching of sponsorship and donations by the company.
Since the company’s charity committee was established in 2004, Markel and its staff have raised £410,520, and increased the amount raised year on year.
