New World Record, Mike Buss completes his latest Running Endurance Challenge

Mike Running the 2011 MdS

Mike Buss recently touched back down in the UK after a world record covering two continents, again running into the record books.

Mikes challenge started in the Yukon State of Canada where he entered the 6633 Arctic Ultra, a 120mile unsupported footrace pulling a sled in temperatures that hit -40degrees C. Unfortunately 60miles into the race Mike's Sled was damaged beyond repair and after pulling the damaged sled a further 30miles Mike gained an injury to his right hip and knee causing him to have to pull out of the race.

Mike was gutted and unsure that he would be fit to run the next leg of the world record attempt and if the record would still stand having not completed the 6633, but his 91miles was enough to count and now it was back to the UK for only a couple of days before getting onto a plane again, this time bound for the toughest footrace on the planet, the Marathon des Sables a 256km footrace unsupported across the Sahara Desert.

The first two days of the MdS was slow going for Mike testing out his injured hip, but as the longest day approached, Mikes favoured day, he pushed over 200 places up the rankings in just one day over the 82km run in temperatures that soared through and above 50degrees C.
The next stage was the Marathon Day, 42km and again Mike gaining speed pulled back another 100 places on a day that saw temperatures of 60degrees C.

The organisers stated that it had been the longest race ever and one of the hottest, making this already the toughest race on the planet even tougher!

Mike has only just flown back to the UK from the Sahara ready for his next run for Help for Heroes and other Forces Charities close to his heart in the knowledge he has done enough to secure his latest world record, The Greatest Distance Covered over a Back to Back Arctic/Desert Ultra covering a total of 402km.

Mike is now just waiting back from the official thumbs up from the Record Books and another endurance record to add to his growing collection.

Mike's Challenges in support of Help for Heroes, and other forces charities have now reached over £70,000 getting close to his 2011 end of year target of £250,000
