New functions for RVG200 touchscreen paperless data recorder help users to get even more from their process data
ABB has expanded the capabilities of its RVG200 paperless touchscreen recorder with the addition of new functions providing users with greater flexibility in collecting, displaying and accessing data.
The RVG200’s simplicity and range of features including high security data storage, easy remote access and scalability, has made it a popular choice in a wide range of applications, from water abstraction and treatment through to heating, cooling and batch recording in food and beverage production.
Amongst the new functions added to the recorder is the ability to create user-customisable views, including plant mimics that can be populated with process values and status.
Using a PC tool, users can now create customised views and populate them with bitmap images, text, numeric values and function buttons. Up to seven custom views can be uploaded to a single recorder, with one for each of the RVG200’s six configurable process groups and the seventh as an overview. Together with the existing chart, bar-graph and digital indicator views already present in the RVG200, the new customisable view function helps to gives users a much deeper insight into their process data.
For applications where energy consumption needs to be allocated to specific departments or operations, the RVG200 now also offers an optional energy calculation function. Using predefined equations for closed and return-less systems for water, saturated steam and superheated steam, the energy calculation function enables accurate calculation of heat energy in water and steam flows. The calculation can be used to produce mass, power and enthalpy values that can then be trended and totalised as required to produce an accurate overview of energy usage.
As a way of enabling users to achieve a real-time indication of energy use, the energy calculation function is ideal wherever an end user needs to be billed for using a centrally generated supply of steam or hot water. Examples include district cooling and heating and manufacturing processes, as well as monitoring and targeting programmes, where data is used to help identify potential measures for greater energy efficiency.
Another new feature incorporated into the RVG200 is remote operation, giving users convenient access to their recorded data whenever and wherever they need it. Included as standard, the remote operation function is easy to set up and use, with users able to connect over the internet to an enabled RVG200 via a PC, tablet or smartphone. By eliminating the need to deploy engineers to physically visit one or more installed recorders, this new feature can help organisations to save cost and utilise their staff resources more effectively.
With stringent legislation around everything from product quality through to discharges to air and water, it is vital for industrial and utility operators to be able to prove that their recorded data was collected using a properly configured device. Previously, to document a recorder’s configuration, operators needed to manually create and keep a report of their device’s settings.
This process has now been simplified by the addition of configuration report generation function into the RVG200, which allows users to quickly and easily export configuration settings in a CSV format. Once created, the CSV file can be printed or incorporated into an electronic report.
“As industry increasingly moves towards introducing digital technologies into their processes, the ability to collect, access and utilise data is becoming ever more important,” says Martin Binney, Global Product Line Manager - Recording and Control for ABB Measurement & Analytics. “With its new range of functions, combined with its core features such as touchscreen operation, scalable I/O and secure data recording, the RVG200 provides an ideal solution for any application where fast and reliable access to accurate process data is needed.”
