Margaret Thatcher – her role in shaping the modern housing market

“It’s hard to overstate the impact Margaret Thatcher and her Conservative Government had on the housing market in the 1980’s and which shaped the market that as agents we now see around us today. Every letting agent and estate agent owes her a debt of gratitude. The Housing Act 1980 made it attractive for council house tenants to buy their homes at a discount. So much so that 200,000 council houses were sold in 1982, and by 1987 1,000,000 council houses had changed hands.
