Shiply named in Sunday Times Maserati 100 List 2019

Robert Matthams, Founder & CEO of Shiply

London, 21st March 2019 – Shiply (www.shiply.com) has been named in the Maserati 100 List, which is a list produced in conjunction with The Sunday Times recognising the top one hundred innovative entrepreneurs in the UK.

This year, the Maserati 100 List’s theme was ‘innovators’, recognising those who have contributed original thinking to their industry. Importantly, the list only recognises those who have been able to convert innovation into a successful business, rather than innovation for innovations sake.

Attending the glitzy awards celebration at News UK headquarters on Wednesday night, founder and CEO Robert Matthams said: “I am incredibly proud of the strong team at Shiply and all they have achieved. We have managed to build a strong company over the last 10 years and we continue to grow at a rapid pace. Millions of people now use Shiply and hundreds of thousands of transport providers are signed up to our platform.”

Matthams continued: “I’d like to thank Maserati and The Sunday Times for putting on such a great event this evening and for getting so many interesting and exciting businesses and entrepreneurs under one roof.”

When asked about the future of the business, Matthams added: “We’ve been going for 10 years now. I’m really proud of the team for building a strong, growing, debt-free and profitable business. Importantly, we have millions of happy customers globally, we are very grateful for that, our rating of 9.2/10 (Excellent) on Trustpilot is testament to this. We will continue to grow at a rapid pace and earn many more happy customers in the years to come. ”

The evening continued with inspiring speeches from leaders at the Sunday Times, Maserati and Simon Calver former CEO of LoveFilm and Mothercare and now a partner at BGF Ventures.

Shiply, founded in 2008 is an online transport marketplace which matches people needing to move goods with transport companies going there anyway. Over 25% of lorries and vans run empty of cargo and 50% run only part-full. By utilising the Shiply platform and making use of this spare capacity, Shiply dramatically cuts down on wasteful CO2 emissions whilst also increasing the profitability of transport companies and offering up to 75% off standard rates for consumers/SME’s.

Maserati was founded over 100 years ago by the Maserati brothers who were entrepreneurs and innovators of their time. With humble, pioneering beginnings as a motorsport works, the family made a ground-breaking move in 1926 by acquiring Diatto’s racing materials including chassis, gearboxes and other components to create the very first Maserati car, the Tipo 26. The car quickly made its name on the Italian motor racing scene resulting in the brothers working non-stop to meet demand, producing a total of 43 Tipo 26 race cars.
