London’s hypest monthly rave Hip-Hop vs Dancehall is returning to its roots in East London and relaunching this summer at its spiritual and first home – Trapeze in Shoreditch.
Bringing it back to the raw energy of one incredible basement room, 3 DJs, one host and all of your favourite rap and bashment heat this is the formula that saw this become one of London’s best loved parties. Established in 2005, The Doctor’s Orders has been the standout independent promoter of Hip-Hop, RnB and Dancehall events in London for nearly 15 years. Coming close to their 1000th event this winter they show no signs of slowing down as they continue to lead the way in London’s club-land, throwing great monthly parties in many of London’s best venues as well as one-off live shows with internationally renowned artists.
Born out of Rod ‘Spin Doctor’ Gilmore’s frustration of lack of genuine Hip-Hop parties, The Doctor’s Orders started as one regular party in Shoreditch’s now long closed Herbal nightclub: “I wanted a party where everyone could come together to the best possible music, and I mean party. Dance, sweat, smile, not hang on the edge of the dance-floor trying to look cool.”
It’s an approach that has seen them continue to thrive and develop a variety of party brands in some of the capital’s best venues, including Hip-Hop vs RnB and Hip-Hop vs Dancehall, as well as put on some of the biggest names from around the world of Hip-Hop and beyond. From live acts and DJs they have put on shows with everyone from Erykah Badu and Jazz Jeff to Questlove and De La Soul, right through the very best home-grown talent such as Soul II Soul’s legendary Jazzie B to Tim Westwood and Benji B.
Never shy of trying new things, The Doctor’s Orders is constantly evolving to embrace new musical trends, while also keeping one eye on the golden era of Hip-Hop that got them all started in the first place and staying true to the passion that has seen them succeed so long. Experimenting with events has seen them even launch a daytime family block party called FUN DMC where kids and parents can come out and party together.
