AMSTERDAM, 26th October 2017: Planet Computers confirms that Gemini, a dual boot Android/Linux PDA featuring Wi-Fi and 4G with a physical keyboard, has received a CES 2018 innovation award.

Gemini received the award – in the Wireless Handsets and Accessories category - at an event for Honorees today (26th October) in Amsterdam. The CES Innovation Awards are judged by a pre-eminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honour outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories.

Gemini is a fully functioning mobile device: users can make calls, send texts, surf the web, watch videos and movies, browse and download apps from Google Play store, all whilst typing on a physical QWERTY keyboard. The 4220mAh battery enables users to remain connected all day without having to carry a tablet or laptop. Gemini is powered by the Android operating system but is also a Linux dual boot device. It boasts 64GB internal memory with expansion via a microSD card, yet weighs less than 320 grams.

Gemini resembles the popular “communicator” devices of the 1990s, but employs all current technology. It is a clamshell designed mobile device with a physical keyboard and a large (5.99 inch) multi-touch colour display. Gemini enables users to type emails, blogs and social media posts easily on the go. The full physical keyboard can be ordered in multiple languages to suit a global audience.

Dr Janko Mrsic-Flogel, CEO of Planet Computers, comments: {{“Getting recognised by CES is another important milestone on Gemini’s journey, further demonstrating the global interest in reviving the PDA}} / communicator form factor for the 21st Century."

"We are now a matter of weeks from production of Gemini and we cannot wait to ship the products to our loyal backers on Indiegogo.”

Gemini was one of the most popular Indiegogo projects of 2017, reaching its funding target in less than a week. The product will start shipping to backers at the end of 2017 and officially launch at CES 2018. For updates on progress please click here.

The CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the owner and producer of CES 2018, the global gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, and have been recognising achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.

Notes to editors:

Planet Computers launched the Gemini PDA crowdfunding project on the Indiegogo platform in March 2017, and is close to trebling its original target to support the development programme. Planet Computers is on target to deliver the first full production products to supporters of the project late this year and the project remains ‘InDemand’ on Indiegogo for pre-orders of the crowdfunded version of the product.

The Gemini is a 4G and Wi-Fi communicator device with a full physical keyboard and runs on the Android and Linux platforms (dual boot). With a 5.99” screen, 5 megapixel camera and stereo speakers it provides a communications, media consumption and social media device for the 21st Century. Gemini will come in a variety of different keyboard language layouts.
