The London Olympics will host 26 sports this summer but there’ll be no representation from the most popular board sport in the world – surfing. Despite over 20 million active enthusiasts and a £6billion industry, it’s a no go as far as the Olympics are concerned. And the doors have been firmly shut again on our beach loving friends as the International Olympic Committee recently decided not to include surfing in the 2020 Olympics.
Many blame the surf industry big boys such as Rip Curl, Billabong and Quiksilver for not doing enough to include surfing in the Olympic movement.
