London, 29 May 2002. Brits would travel more if we had more bank holidays reveals a UK survey released today by online travel service Opodo*. In the survey, conducted by independent research organisation ICM, over 70% said they would pack a bag and take off if we had more long weekends.

The UK has some of the lowest number of bank holidays – only eight - compared with 12 in Italy, 13 in Austria and up to 14 in both Spain and Portugal. However this year we have an extra day off and people are taking advantage of it to book a weekend away.

The Scots are making the most of the 4-day weekend – 9% have already booked a trip abroad, closely followed by the North West and Yorkshire and Humberside, where 8% have decided to take to the skies. Those in the North East on the other hand are staying at home, although 6% of people are hoping to book a last minute trip abroad.
