NOCO has been announced as the lead sponsor for the 2019 Autocar Awards. The event, hosted at the Silverstone Wing on Tuesday 14 May, celebrates the brightest representatives from the automotive industry, along with the most impressive models from the past year to have received a five-star Autocar road test rating.

The revered Issigonis Trophy will once again be handed to the person Autocar feels has made an outstanding contribution to the European automotive industry, while the Sturmey Award, named after Autocar’s founding editor, Henry Sturmey, will return to celebrate innovation and excellence in the world of motoring.

Autocar will also name one model its ‘Icon of Icons’. Chosen by Autocar readers from a shortlist of 17 models, the Readers’ Champion award will recognise a car that has stood the test of time, the only criteria being that participating vehicles need to have had the same name from birth and still be on sale today.

Other areas of recognition this year will be awards for Britain’s Best Driver’s Cars, Used Car Hero and those celebrating design, engineering and motorsport heroes.

With more than 100 years of expertise, NOCO designs and creates a wide range of premium battery-related products, including its best-selling NOCO Genius® Multi-Purpose Smart Battery Chargers and NOCO Boost® UltraSafe Lithium Jump Starters.

Gary Vincent, director of sales for the UK and Benelux at NOCO, said: “The automotive world is one of the most exciting industries to be involved in right now. With such a wealth of exceptional models available for motorists to enjoy, and such great progress being made into developing the next generation of vehicles, it is great to join Autocar in recognising some of the names that make the automotive industry stand out.

“Innovative design and engineering are what makes the automotive industry so interesting. We can’t wait to see which models have caught Autocar’s eye this year, and get to know some of the team members behind the biggest achievements in the industry.”

Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw said: “The Autocar Awards bring together and celebrate the most influential people and cars in the industry while allowing readers to have their say. Each year we celebrate exciting and interesting developments in the automotive industry, and having been at the forefront of automotive battery technology for more than a century, NOCO is a perfect sponsor to help us recognise this.”

Toyota president Akio Toyoda was recognised at last year’s awards, taking home the coveted Issigonis Trophy, while Professor Graham Hargrave and research associate Jonathan Wilson from Loughborough University jointly received the Sturmey Award for their work on a revolutionary exhaust treatment addressing the issues of nitrogen oxides in modern diesel engines.
