eQuoo, the Award Winning Emotional Fitness Game Launches, Boosting Mental health

eQuoo is an Emotional Fitness game that teaches its players the psychological skills they need to succeed in the game AND in real life.

PsycApps Digital Mental Health is excited to release their first mental health game, eQuoo, the Emotional Fitness Game.

With mental illness being on the rise – the WHO predicts that depression alone will have overtaken cancer as the global disease burden no 1 by 2030 – it is crucial we find affordable and accessible ways to deliver mental health care. The NHS is doing what it can with its limited funding, but psychologist Silja Litvin and her team at PsycApps sees smartphones to be a unique distribution model that can reach millions of UK citizens.

The problem with mobile therapy, though, is that people don’t stick to the interventions long enough to reap the benefits… How many times have you downloaded a ‘healthy’ app and kind of left it for dead after a few days or weeks?! When face to face therapy is translated on to a digital platform, it lacks the personal connection (ergo the ‘face’) essentially becoming an interactive self-help book. And for that you need a LOT of motivation.

Silja Litvin and her team looked to the 100-billion-dollar gaming industry to gather the know-how to keep people interested in mobile therapy which lead them to partner with Collision Studios, a game developing company that has worked on ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Walking Dead’ and many more. Together they developed eQuoo (named after Emotional Quotient, the sister of IQ. Did you know EQ is more important to success and happiness than IQ?!).
eQuoo is an Emotional Fitness game that teaches its players the psychological skills they need to succeed in the game AND in real life. What is therapy if not acquiring the skills to be able to deal with emotional and mental stressors? With eQuoo you can learn many skills vital to building mental resilience, effectively acting preventative while having fun playing a game. The game is targeted at 18-28 year olds who are vulnerable to mental health issues due to life-changes as well as being in the age where most mental illnesses manifest.

The game uses psycho-education, positive and systemic psychology, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) wrapped up in a game to ensure the player can learn and practice the new psychological skills in a safe and stimulating environment. Once a skill is learned, the player commences to an interactive game where they use what they just learned to win the level.
As of now eQuoo is sub-clinical, proactively boosting resilience but PsycApps, it’s developer, is raising money to add therapeutic features that treat depression and anxiety.

eQuoo is available in the iTunes App and Google Play Stores in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia, you can check out the website and download the game for free here: http://www.equoogame.com.
With thousands of players and over 100 5-star reviews in the app stores, and 2 prizes, eQuoo is trying to reach all the people who could benefit from mental resilience.
