CEMEX partners with Fleet Source for driver CPC training

CEMEX and Fleet Source

We were overwhelmed by how helpful, friendly and professional the Fleet Source team were

Letchworth, October 31st 2017 – Fleet Source, a leading provider of unrivalled training for the road transport industry, has been selected by CEMEX to provide its drivers with CPC training.

In the UK, CEMEX generates around £775 million in annual sales. In addition to readymixed concrete, cement and aggregates, the company also supplies and installs asphalt materials, and manufactures concrete block pavings, rail products and bespoke pre-cast and concrete blocks.

CEMEX operates a comprehensive national supply network to ensure that quality materials and services are available to their customers locally.

THE CHALLENGE:

Up until 2015, CEMEX were using two in house trainers to carry out all of their driver training, but as a FORS gold status company, the requirement for their drivers to carry out Vulnerable Road User CPC training meant they needed to look for an external provider.

It was important to CEMEX to find a provider that satisfied all of their training needs, including being able to carry out training on vulnerable road users as well as being able to offer refresher courses on tacho legislation and health and wellbeing.

Additionally, CEMEX needed a provider that was able to train in excess of 340 drivers on the first few working days of the year. This proved to be impossible with their in house team of trainers.

THE SOLUTION:

Fleet Source are the largest provider of the FORS Approved, Safe Urban Driving Vulnerable Road User courses which met CEMEX‘s requirements beyond what other training providers could deliver.

Fleet Source also went the extra mile to accommodate CEMEX’s needs and ran 18 courses in the first few days of the year to allow all 340 drivers to be trained. This meant that as well as being able to complete their CPC requirements in bulk, it also ensured that their workforce returned to driving focused on the health, safety and well being of themselves and those around them.

“We were overwhelmed by how helpful, friendly and professional the Fleet Source team were, they did everything they possibly could to make driver training painless for us, especially with the amount of complexities involved in getting our drivers all trained,” commented Simon Spelman, Area Logistics Manager, CEMEX.

“Fleet Source also ensured that all the logistical planning was taken care of, including the set-up of the training room and location, a trainer for the course and all equipment necessary (such as bikes, safety equipment etc),” Spelman added.

THE TRAINING:

Safe Urban Driving (SUD)

An increase in population across cities and towns in the UK adds to the challenges and hazards of driving. To help improve road safety, the Safe Urban Driving course focuses on understanding how vulnerable road users behave and allows drivers to have a first hand experience of being a vulnerable road user.

The SUD course is fully aligned to meet the training requirements of:

• Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) Standard
• Contractual Work Related Road Risk (WRRR) requirements
• Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Silver level
• Driver CPC accredited
• Funded for FORS accredited operators in London

“The booking process was straightforward and the training itself was very much enjoyed by our drivers,” Spelman continued. “I personally attended a Safe Urban Driving course and I can confirm that it was hugely beneficial. It certainly opened my eyes to the issues of cyclists vs the motor vehicle.”

“I would highly recommend Fleet Source’s training – our drivers are certainly trained to a much higher standard now that they have completed their CPC requirements with Fleet Source,” Spelman concluded.

Fleet Source train circa 350 CEMEX drivers per annum.

“Fleet Source took on the challenge to accomodate CEMEX’s complex needs and we are delighted to help the team achieve their training goals,” said Nick Caesari, Managing Director at Fleet Source.

“As a company we are proud to be able to be flexible and to accomodate the key requirement of training 340 CEMEX drivers in a matter of a few days. This allowed CEMEX to get quickly back to their day to day business and for their drivers to return to work focussed on being a better driver,” Caesari concluded.
