London College Of Garden Design graduate wins RHS Young Designer of the Year 2018

LCGD student Will Williams

London College of Garden Design(LCGD) graduate Will Williams has been awarded a Gold medal and the much sought-after title of RHS Young Designer 2018 at the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Tatton Park Flower Show.

Just as LCGD celebrates its 10th anniversary so does this competition and in 2018 five finalists aged 28 and under were challenged to create a feel good garden for wildlife. At just 22 years of age Will is the youngest finalist in 2018 and the youngest ever to win the accolade. However he has tested his skills before having previously exhibited 2 show gardens at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show since graduating in 2015.

Will’s garden ‘At One’ explores how both humans and wildlife can enjoy the same space. Stunning planting aimed at wildlife provides a great backdrop for a contemporary garden that a young professional couple might enjoy. Will said “I hope that I can show that the training I have had starting first at horticulture college and then completing the Diploma at the London College of Garden Design demonstrates that this is a viable career for young people.”

LCGD students have won more student design awards than any other college over the past 10 years and have graduated to establish successful careers all over the world. LCGD Director Andrew Fisher Tomlin said “ We’re delighted that Will’s hard work and expertise has been recognised by the RHS in this way. Since graduating he has developed a successful business at a young age and is a great credit to the profession.”
