91% of British people believe that one USB charging type would benefit the workplace – research by CMD Ltd.
According to a recent survey, 46% of British respondents were unaware of any new laws regarding USB regulations, including 17% who were unsure. CMD are a British manufacturer that create ergonomic and workstation power products for people in offices and commercial spaces. In January 2025, in conjunction with new USB laws, they conducted research into how the British public feels towards a universal USB charging cable and their attitudes to how it can benefit the workplace.
Taken from a sample of 421 British corporate employees, 91% believed there were advantages to having one universal charging cable, and 91% thought it would benefit the workplace.
From December 2024, the European Union adopted “The Common Charger Directive,” requiring all new mobile phones and portable electronic devices to include a USB C charger. Other countries, including India and the US, will implement these soon, and it is estimated that the UK is looking to follow suit.
Last year, a call for evidence was undertaken by the British government to determine how focusing on the USB C universal charger would benefit businesses and deliver consumer and environmental benefits.
In CMD’s latest survey, 60% of respondents would prefer devices with only the USB C charging port, with 23% wanting multi-charging opportunities. It appears that British employees are preferring USB C focused workstation products, which simplifies charging in a collaborative workspace and reduce the need for several different chargers or adapters.
With this in mind, CMD’s new product, Caplet (https://www.cmd-ltd.com/caplet/), is a perfect example of how to incorporate the new USB law in a neat and vibrant way. Caplet, Mix Awards North 2024 Finalist, includes a dual-port USB C fast charger for rapid charging and enhances workspaces with an ergonomic design and various colour options.
