UK Small Business are “A Legion of Fundraisers” according to new report
We know how important the UK's small business are for the economy, now it is time to acknowledge how vital they are for the community
Small Business in the UK constitute “a legion of fundraisers” according to the latest research by BusinessesForSale.com which found 72% of small business in the UK donate in some way to one or more good causes.
Donations varied from traditional fundraising, allowing staff time off to lend support and giving goods and services pro bono. Most small businesses surveyed supported multiple charities and not for profit organisations, with one small business alone raising an impressive £28K last year.
Rufus Bazley, Director of Marketing at BusinessesForSale.com says, “This survey really demonstrates how collectively UK’s small business community forms a legion of fundraisers. We know how important the UK's small business are for the economy, now it is time to acknowledge how vital they are for the community.”
“On average, alongside non-monetary gifts, the small businesses surveyed raised £3,436 in 2016 for good causes and if they are truly representative of 72% of the 5.4million small businesses in the UK that amounts to an incredible donation nationally”
The small businesses surveyed supported a wide variety of good causes but overall their hearts were for those closer to home, with the small independent charities and societies that rarely reach the limelight receiving the most donations.
Alongside traditional fundraising respondents reported organising festivals, storing toys and running free workshops in support of a wide range of not for profit organisations.
Most small businesses reported internal benefits too with a high proportion detailing how staff morale and motivation benefitted from their charitable work with only a fraction saying the business’ bottom line was also a beneficiary.
The 2018 Small Business Big Heart Awards open for entries on Friday 29 September.
