Ashfords LLP proud sponsor of the University of Plymouth’s Civil Mock Trial
Law firm Ashfords LLP is delighted to announce the success of the first Civil Mock Trial at the University of Plymouth held on 25 March 2019.
The Ashfords’ Plymouth Office collaborated with the Law Society to create a competition that focused on the student’s advocacy skills. Two mock trials were held with one based on a property scenario and the other employment. The competition was judged by David Ellis, James Hemsley and Tanya Jones from Ashfords.
The ‘Runner Up Best Witness’ was awarded to Ayesha Faraj and the ‘Best Witness’ was awarded to Olivia Moran for acting ability. The ‘Runner Up Best Advocates’ were awarded to Casey Chard and Sophi Carroll.
The ‘Best Advocates’ were awarded to Ruby Forster and Mitch Ward. The winners were awarded with an engraved trophy and one week’s work experience with Ashfords.
Ashfords would like to thank and congratulate the other competitors Tom Lynas-Monroe, Katherine Murphy, Magda Pawlak and Holly Parker for their participation. All of the students performed very well and it was a tough decision for the Judges.
Sophi Carroll, president of the Law Society, commented: “It was so good to see everyone involved and I am glad the competition was a success. It adds something new that helps boost the student’s CV’s. There is not a lot on offer for students aspiring to become a civil barrister and this competition has helped massively."
David Ellis, Real Estate Partner, commented: “We were very pleased to have been able to support the Law Society. Those participating did exceptionally well and clearly had put in a lot of effort beforehand . Hopefully the experience gained and feedback given will help them with their future careers."
Ashfords are pleased the competition has gained positive feedback and will be sponsoring the competition again in 2020 and will continue to support the Law Faculty and the University of Plymouth Law Society.
