Pocket App CEO gives back to UK's budding entrepreneurs
Mayor’s International Business Programme Mentor, Paul Swaddle, leads App Development Conference for University of Kent’s young entrepreneurs
London, 17th March 2016 – Paul Swaddle, CEO of Pocket App, the UK’s largest independent app developer, joined a shortlist of prestigious app development industry pioneers in speaking at the University of Kent’s App Development Conference on Wednesday 16th March.
Paul Swaddle, who recently also joined some of the world’s most experienced and successful entrepreneurs as a mentor in the Mayor’s International Business Programme, a new initiative launched by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson MP, to help the capital’s high growth firms break into new international markets and grow their existing operations overseas, spoke in front of 100 students at the university’s famed Templeman Library about the intricacies of the app development industry.
The university has witnessed a seismic shift in the number of students interested in starting app-based businesses and software developments, with every 1 in 3 business ideas at the university focusing on, or in some way incorporating, digital software. The App Development Conference was a half-day event curated by The University of Kent’s Hub for Innovation and Enterprise and the University’s School of Computing, and consisted of a series of speeches and workshops conducted by the app development industry’s most successful entrepreneurs and thought leaders. The goal of the conference was for these figures to provide the budding student entrepreneur population with knowledge, insight and confidence to go forward in app development with high aspirations.
Paul Swaddle, CEO and Co-founder of Pocket App commented, “It was great to be invited to speak in front of so many ambitious, young entrepreneurs. This generation clearly realises that mobile is now a central component of any entrepreneur’s business plan, regardless of whether or not your business is primarily app-focussed. The words ‘digital’ and ‘app’ are no longer niche terms and are now highly relevant to most successful businesses; it’s very encouraging to see that the students here clearly appreciate that. You only have to look at the recent high profile sales of mobile app developers such as Mubaloo, The App Business and ArcTouch, which all went for substantial amounts of money, to realise that organisations are switching towards a more digital mindset and valuing how the best technology can be a key way to differentiate themselves from their competitors.”
The introductory and interactive conference also aims to provide opportunities for the aspiring mobile entrepreneurs to work alongside leading external developers to grow their ideas.
Paul Swaddle, who is well versed in providing critical feedback on the app development market following his appearance as a guest judge in the final of the BBC’s hugely popular series, The Apprentice, continued, “I would love to work alongside some of these young people to help bring their ideas to life and, if possible, develop those ideas into a product that can be taken to market. At Pocket App, we pride ourselves on our ability to not only collaborate with large blue chip organisations, but also to provide the consultancy and advice that these young entrepreneurs need to continue their mobile journeys.”
