High-performance desktop virtualisation is even more economical with new ViewSonic® thin client
London, UK – 5th July 2016 – ViewSonic, Corp., a leading global provider of visual solutions products, today announced its new line of thin client products, including the SC-T25 built upon the latest Raspberry Pi 3 hardware platform.
Recognising the phenomenal success of the Raspberry Pi platform, ViewSonic partnered with both the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and virtualisation industry leader Citrix Systems, Inc, to develop an affordable solution for high-performance desktop virtualisation. One of the most economical VDI products available today, the SC-T25 meets computing needs for organisations ranging from SMB to enterprise, delivering a full desktop experience ideal for industries such as healthcare and finance.
In the past four years, over 8 million Raspberry Pi devices have been sold. The third generation Raspberry Pi 3, announced in February 2016, offers an even greater combination of performance, versatility and affordability. Engineered with Pi 3 core specifications, the SC-T25 is powered by a Broadcom® 64-bit quad-core ARM processor. Wireless LAN and Bluetooth networking support, 1GB memory and HDMI® video output provide connectivity to support nearly any application.
The SC-T25 is Citrix certified and optimised for HDX technology, a proven enterprise solution utilised daily by millions of users worldwide. The SC-T25 offers superior 2D/3D graphics capabilities for a high-definition computing experience within a virtual enterprise.
“By bringing the SC-T25 to market, ViewSonic is offering one of the industry’s lowest cost-per-seat solutions for businesses and enterprises that have not been able to fully implement their VDI deployment,” said Brian Wei, Product Manager for ViewSonic Europe. “This thin client allows users to access the benefits of a VDI-based system, providing an extremely cost-effective solution that benefits everyone from everyday knowledge workers to power users.”
Bringing together cutting-edge hardware and proven virtualisation technology, the SC-T25 offers the computing power, security and scalability that businesses demand. The ViewSonic Thin OS (VTOS), a secure Linux® operating system designed specifically for thin client applications, and the easy-to-use ViewSonic Device Manager (VDM 3.0) software, round out a complete solution for virtually effortless implementation.
“Here at Raspberry Pi, driving down the cost of computer hardware remains our biggest imperative, so we are very excited to join ViewSonic as they launch the HDX Ready Raspberry Pi. This innovation introduces a low-cost user device for Citrix’s industry-leading virtual app and desktop technology. Citrix’s reputation of enhancing data security, simplifying IT management, and delivering a great user experience will help demolish barriers to cost-effective, high-performance computing, making VDI accessible to a whole generation of first-time users which is exactly what Raspberry Pi is striving to achieve,” said Eben Upton, CEO Raspberry Pi Foundation.
The SC-T25 has an ESP of €99/£79 and is available now.
