Insomnia at the menopause

Do you struggle to get to sleep at night – or stay asleep? Do you wake up very early in the morning? If so, you’re certainly not alone, as insomnia is a common symptom of the menopause. You may wake up feeling unrefreshed or fatigued, affecting your concentration and mood during the day. So how can you deal with your insomnia before it takes over your life?

In the Summer 2025 issue of The Menopause Exchange newsletter, Ruth Bailey, advanced nurse practitioner, writes about the best ways to manage insomnia at the menopause. She looks at the role of pharmacy medicines, self-help strategies, HRT and cognitive behavioural therapy.
