To celebrate the launch of its new digital marketing training courses in The Shard, global digital marketing agency, Jellyfish, has revealed which parts of the UK tweet the most.
The study shows that the people of Kingston upon Thames are the UK’s biggest tweeters with a Tweet Rate of 94.14, followed by the Highland area of Scotland and Ceredigion in Wales, which scored 57.48 and 54.34 respectively.
The locations that tweet the most are all urban, with the exception of the Highland area, Ceredigion and Dumfries and Galloway, although all three do have some sizeable urban areas within their borders.

Despite Kingston upon Thames’s best efforts, when you group the UK by regions, London only comes out third overall, preceded by the North West and Scotland, which takes the top spot. The interactive map and chart below show the Tweet Rate across the UK.

Commenting on the findings, Hannah Rainford, senior social manager at Jellyfish says: “
While we expected big cities like London, and Liverpool and Manchester in the North West, to have a big tweeting population, we were surprised to see them pipped to the top spot by Scotland, which comes top of the tweets. It’s great to see how popular Twitter is across the UK, in both urban and rural areas.”
Jellyfish collated the findings using Brandwatch to pull out one month of research of tweets containing commonly used English words to collect a significant sample of tweets from across the UK. The figures for each region were then divided by the population for each area and then multiplied by 100,000 to create a Tweet Rate.
