Good cyber security isn’t just about protecting systems from harm, it’s about enabling technological leaps that help to improve patient outcomes

London, UK.— May 19, 2016—Imprivata, the healthcare IT security company, will be revealing its latest comprehensive range of security solutions for the healthcare market at Infosec Europe, including Imprivata OneSign® 5.2 and Imprivata Confirm ID® 2.0. Imprivata security solutions have been developed specifically to address the security needs of the healthcare industry and enable healthcare professionals to access, communicate and transact patient information securely and conveniently. The complete range of solutions delivers an enhanced user experience, providing front line healthcare workers with fast and secure access to information and applications, whenever and wherever they need it.

IT security practices within the healthcare industry have come under renewed scrutiny following the infection of IT systems at multiple US hospitals. The most recent outbreaks of ransomware, which encrypts vital files and demands payment in exchange for the decryption key, were reported by three hospitals in the USA. In all three cases, the hospitals suffered severe operational disruption and one forced to shut down all of its desktop computers and activate a back-up system. The hospital reported that it was operating in an internal state of emergency. The most recent attacks occurred a few weeks after it was revealed that a medical centre in Los Angeles had been attacked by ransomware and paid $17,000 to retrieve access to its files. There have also been reported attacks on hospitals in Canada, New Zealand and Germany.

This spate of outbreaks has underlined the need for organisations to embrace a proactive approach to security by ensuring that individual data points, devices and networks are protected against exploits whilst also ensuring that all systems are maintained by using cyber security best practices and the latest technologies.

Imprivata will be showcasing the latest version of its flagship authentication and access management solution, Imprivata OneSign 5.2 which now supports Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS). Imprivata OneSign enables care providers to securely access clinical and administrative applications without the need to enter different usernames and passwords, while still maintaining security best practice. This streamlines clinical workflows, giving care providers more time to focus on their patients. The solution provides full API level support for Microsoft RDS/RDSH workflows, delivering fast and easy access to Microsoft RDS enabled desktops and providing healthcare workers with a seamless authentication experience. With the release of Imprivata OneSign 5.2, the solution supports all the market leading virtualisation vendors including Citrix, VMware and Microsoft.

Additionally, Imprivata will be demonstrating the latest version of Imprivata Confirm ID 2.0 for Clinical Workflows, which streamlines authentication for clinical transactions (such as ordering medication, witness signing, drug disposal and blood administration), by replacing passwords with fast, convenient methods such as the tap of a proximity badge or swipe of a fingerprint. The solution integrates with leading clinical applications delivering a transparent user experience and generates a robust audit trail for all transactions with patient health information.

“Good cyber security isn’t just about protecting systems from harm, it’s about enabling technological leaps that help to improve patient outcomes” said David Ting, Founder and CTO Imprivata. “In this complex security landscape, it is critical to be prepared but too often security is spoken about in negative terms, it’s about making security convenient and almost invisible to patients and healthcare providers.. By adopting good cyber security practices, healthcare organisations can protect patient health information while empowering care teams to access, communicate and transact that information conveniently in their workflow.”

Imprivata is exhibiting at Infosec Europe, 7 - 9 June, Olympia, London. Visit stand number: H90 for more information.
