Captain America inspired bedroom

It’s not just about colour - accessories and pieces that connect to your favourite superhero is the way to go.

There’s no denying the pull and popularity of the summer blockbuster, and in 2018 it’s all about the annual return of the superhero movie. The clean lines and bright colours of superhero emblems are a great starting point for home decor and inspiration. Here we explain how to adapt this look in a few simple steps, while keeping it fresh and contemporary.

With a mix of daring colour palettes and a generous amount of comic book references, this is an approach that can be adapted to suit every level of fandom. Rebecca Snowden, Interior Style Advisor at Furniture Choice shares 3 tips on nailing this modern, fun interior.

1. Start with a distinct colour scheme

“It all begins by identifying the character you want to work with,” Rebecca advises. “For our Captain America-inspired space, we picked out red, blue and white as well as the star on his shield as elements we wanted to include.”

“From there, we incorporated that into as many elements as we could, such as the bedsheets, artwork, and even smaller decor. The crucial thing for this look is to ground it with smart, neutral furniture, so it stays contemporary and relatively understated.”

2. Incorporate key elements or emblems

It’s not just about colour - accessories and pieces that connect to your favourite superhero is the way to go.

“Start off slow and steady - you’ll then have more freedom to experiment, as well as total control to decide if you wish to add more elements in future,” Rebecca says.

“A superhero emblem or two will look good as wall art, or even as a striking feature wall. And they’ll age well too - after all, these are characters that have been around for decades now. For instance, Captain America’s iconic star spangled shield paints a bold, recognisable look in our bedroom interior that also ties the entire space together. ”

3. When in doubt, do it yourself

And finally, superhero-themed decor can be pricey, difficult to find, and tread a fine line between being too kitsch and just kitsch enough. The solution then? Do it yourself!

That’s where this theme truly shines, as part of the fun comes from creating something tailored to your personal taste.

With our Wakanda-inspired Black Panther study, we wanted to create something that would stand out against the more muted, darker tones of the space - and that’s where the chair came in. “The decoupaged chair is an excellent example of repurposing items around the home and adding flair, that doesn’t require breaking the bank.”
