LCGD Short courses programme

There are specialist courses for those wanting to design for specific audiences as well as professional courses in drawing and construction design.

The London College of Garden Design (LCGD) has launched a larger range of short garden design courses for 2019 than ever before reflecting the growing need for continuing professional development training from the garden design profession and concern about future design and business needs.

In 2019 the college has launched a new lecture series on Saturday mornings at RHS Garden Wisley with Peter Thurman discussing some of the hot topics that are coming out of the industry at the moment such as planting for resilience and sustainability. The very popular day on starting a career in garden design “So you want to be a Garden Designer” will again be held at Wisley in March. Kew Gardens will also play host to a number of new courses.

There are specialist courses for those wanting to design for specific audiences as well as professional courses in drawing and construction design. Director of Garden Design Studies Andrew Wilson said, “We have already seen an increase in demand for garden design short courses as the profession gradually adopts a culture of continuing professional development with CPD hour requirements for membership of the Society of Garden Designers and Chartered Institute of Horticulture being mandatory.”

Wilson added “New courses in construction design and business skills will underline our objectives for professional training in 2019 reflecting both a perceived gap in design training and a concern from designers as we head towards Brexit. A day on successful business skills to be held in January has already sold out all 85 places and we are already planning to run this course again in the North of England in Autumn 2019.”

Further courses are in the pipeline with collaborations planned with London Stone and specialists from leading bodies such as the Materials Council. Information on the complete course programme can be found at lcgd.org.uk website.
