Law firm Ashfords LLP is delighted to announce the theme for the Ashfords' Marine Prize at the University of Plymouth.
The Prize is open to all final year students whose research project is within the marine sector and is of relevance to UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 - to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. The projects are also required to demonstrate a tangible impact or benefit to Plymouth and/or other coastal regions.
Ashfords has generously donated to the University of Plymouth in recent years and James Heath, partner and head of Ashfords' Plymouth office, commented: "We are really pleased to be working so closely with the University. The Prize will inspire the students, who are the future leaders in the marine sector, and is a fantastic opportunity for them to have a direct and innovative influence on issues facing coastal regions in the UK and beyond.”
The Prize is being led at the University by the Director of the University’s Marine Institute, Professor Richard Thompson OBE, and the Dean of Science and Engineering by Professor Kevin Jones.
Richard has undertaken a remarkable body of research on plastic pollution. His team were the first to describe microplastics in the marine environment and their research has contributed to policy on a global scale.
I am delighted that Ashfords’ are offering this prize. Marine is a key focus for the University and our students make a major contribution to the marine sector. Research by our students has, for example, contributed to policy on a national and international scale. This prize is fantastic way to help recognise and reward these student achievements.
The University of Plymouth is renowned for high quality, internationally-leading education, research and innovation. With an international reputation in providing courses associated with the sea, the University has one of the widest portfolios of marine and maritime courses in Europe.
