Centrify, a leading provider of Zero Trust Security through the power of Next-Gen Access, today announced the industry’s first and only high tech leadership campaign to Secure the Vote for the 2018 US midterm elections.

“Our democracy is under cyber attack, and there is mounting concern that the 2018 midterms could result in more cyber assaults on election systems than in 2016,” said Tom Kemp, CEO of Centrify. “It is incumbent upon us to protect our citizens’ information, which starts with voter registrations and election integrity. In order to secure the vote, Election Boards need to protect their election systems, and more importantly, sensitive voter registration information against bad actors. That starts with adopting a new mindset that compromised credentials are the main attack vector.”

A “60 Minutes” episode on April 8, 2018 titled, ‘When Russian Hackers Targeted the U.S. Election Infrastructure,’ validates that the main target of the 2016 US election was election boards, and that up to 90,000 voter records were compromised. The reporting confirms how fragile the state of our democracy is: election meddling by foreign interests, database breaches of both political parties, and most recently a high-profile breach of trust. The security of private data and credentials is top of mind not just for enterprises and government officials, but for the electorate at large regarding private information, who has access to it, and how is it used.

Election officials face the biggest battle yet when it comes to securing the vote in the upcoming primaries and mid-term elections. Not only do election officials have to worry about the integrity of voting machines and election systems, but also are mandated to protect the voter registration databases they maintain under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002. Furthermore, new legislation such as the Graham-Klobuchar Amendment is igniting a national dialogue around empowering private and public sector companies to secure their organisations and protect their employees, customers, and partners.

Centrify is extending its Identity-as-a-Service and Privileged Access Management leadership to state and county Election Boards and Officials for the 2018 election. Effective today, the company is providing its Next-Gen Access solutions to eligible Election Boards at no cost for the first eight months of a 12-month (or more) SaaS subscription, representing a 66 per cent discount on MSRP. Centrify is also offering a 10 per cent discount to new Election Board customers to take advantage of its Jump Start professional services program to ensure a smooth and successful deployment of Centrify Zero Trust Security.

Centrify’s Next-Gen Access is the only industry-recognised solution that uniquely converges Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS), enterprise mobility management (EMM) and privileged access management (PAM). This mature and proven approach unifies single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), mobility management, privilege management and behaviour analytics.

“Sophisticated and unsophisticated hackers recognise that cyber-attacks are asymmetrical and that many outdated security paradigms and endpoint devices can be easily bypassed. The path of least resistance remains human fallibility: weak or stolen credentials, phishing schemes, lateral compromises, poisoned updates, or attacks that exploit privileged accounts,” said James Scott, senior fellow at ICIT, a leading government cybersecurity think tank. “Election Board systems are an ideal target for breaches because they are responsible for securing private voter data as well as ensuring the integrity of election systems.”

Zero Trust rethinks the “trust but verify” approach to security, replacing it with a stronger “never trust, always verify” approach to secure endpoints, networks, servers and applications. The Centrify Zero Trust Security model assumes that users inside a network are no more trustworthy than those outside the network. Zero Trust empowers Election Boards to protect sensitive voter information, and ultimately secure the 2018 midterms and safeguard our democracy.
