Fake news is infecting the very foundations of society around the world and we are incredibly proud to be playing a role in helping fight this disease

LONDON, UK – 13 JUNE, 2018: London-based startup Krzana has been selected as an official technology provider to Verificado, a pioneering news verification project featuring over 90 publishers, universities, Google and Facebook, to tackle fake news in July’s Mexican election.

Krzana, an AI-powered real time search platform, will be used by Verificado, a collaborative election reporting and fact-checking initiative, to monitor breaking news on social media in the runup to the election and on the day Mexican voters head to the polls

Krzana’s platform discovers text, video and images as soon as they’re uploaded, enabling Verificado to counter with instant fact checking before fake news starts trending, a key tool in Verificado’s mission to find and debunk fake news on social media ahead of the 1 July election.

Thought to be the world’s largest media collaboration of this type, Verificado is led by Animal Político, AJ+ Español, and Pop-Up Newsroom, with core support from Facebook and the Google News Initiative.

Steve Godman, CEO, Kranza, said: “Fake news is infecting the very foundations of society around the world and we are incredibly proud to be playing a role in helping fight this disease. This project is one of the most collaborative yet seen in the publishing industry and we hope its success will lead to future similar efforts around the world.”

Krzana’s platform will be used to monitor individual candidates, political parties, activity at polling stations and general news around the election, including checking the veracity of text, videos and images uploaded and disseminated on social media channels.

About Kranza

Krzana is the AI-powered tool for journalists to discover stories before they become news.

It is currently being trialled by several major media companies as a newsgathering engine for digital-first journalists, to discover pre-news and uncover the narrative behind local and global events, before they become news. Its 60,000+ worldwide sources cover everything from social media and local press to international newswires and government statements. The platform lets journalists build a personalised newsfeed based on interests and geographical locations. It sources text, video and images as soon as they’re uploaded, so users can find them at zero views.
